1966 and 1967

Success on the playing field continued in 1966 with Banagher reaching the Final of the Dr. Kerlin Cup. Played at 'Claudy Green' Banagher gave Ballerin a run for their money that day but the final score was in Ballerin's favour 1-10 to 1-7.
The Senior team Captain ,Hal Lynch, was elected on 2nd March  and the first league game against Glen Maghera took place on 5th March. Banagher shared the points with Glen and later  Ballerin while Drumsurn beat them 1-7 to 1-4 as did Glenullin in an important League game.
Owen Roes were to provide the opposition in an Intermediate Championship match on Monday 10th July but they failed to field. This non show was more poignant in light of the following day's events. It  not only deprived the Banagher players of what would have been their last game with Fr. Mc Nally looking on but also deprived  Fr. Mc Nally of his last opportunity to watch his beloved Banagher in action.
The Seniors finished joint third in the League which was an admirable achievement for a young Club.
The Schoolboys were starting to make their presence felt when they won the League title by beating Ballerin.
In order to be in contact during the week and not just at weeekends Fr. Mc Nally suggested holding keep - fit classes twice weekly with basket ball the main activity on one of those nights. It was hoped that table tennis , cards etc would also develop.
The gate receipts for the Banagher v Ballerin league game were 26/- (£1.30 in to-days money) and of this 10/-(50p) went to the referee. Not surprisingly Club finances were not healthy and as usual it was Fr. Mc Nally who suggested that he could acquire a couple of All Ireland tickets which could be raffled to raise funds. Sadly he never did.
